Idea for Teachers Set 3

Teaching history today
Often when I visit a classroom the most common reaction I get from students is : boring/ why to learn something that happened centuries ago.
I realised that my attempt to teach history should be such that this feeling in their mind is washed away and I looked up for many platforms to make it useful in my classroom. I realized to do away with the feeling of "past" students are needed to be provided with "live" experiences. The link attached below just provides only few of many ideas to make a history class fun and educational at the same time.
Apart from the techniques/resources mentioned in the article, a teacher can also take technology assistance in the form of gamification / virtual trips / live class rooms etc.
The attempt should be to provide epic experience to all!

Emotional Intelligence
Since childhood I have come across the word IQ often and always known that people with high IQ have higher chances of academic success. But there is a great change in our thinking which first began from the book of Daniel Goleman's " emotional intelligence" which said that there is something more important than IQ to succeed in career. EQ is one of the most essential skill in education for teachers as well as students to promote the ability to survive and sustain in the workplace of 2050.
Here are some links that can help you to understand why and how EQ can be developed in education and it's stakeholders.

School Discipline's Effect on academic performance of Students
Quality education is the prime goal of any educational institution. This goal can never be achieved without discipline. William Blackstone used a phrase in 1770 " in loco parentis" which gives educators place as of parents. Teachers play an important role in school discipline and it does not mean giving corporal punishment but making an order in learning and life style. Various researches had been done in this and all studies showed the effectiveness of school discipline. Studies showed a disciplined school encourage students' academic performance by controlling students' behaviour.

Environment Education through Eco club Activities

As we are aware of the pollution that happens around the world, schools have come forward to implement certain strategies in schools to be aware and to make aware others about respecting our mother earth. What is interesting is that the schools all over in Delhi implemented this idea as they face more issues with pollution. Environmental awareness is a chain process that begin from the work of a child and continuous. A child gets sensitized about their environment and passes it to the family and it goes from society, city, state and thus becomes the part of a collaborative work of the country. So Eco club education is an important factor which imparts knowledge, makes the children to observe, reasoning out and generate values.

Yoga
Yoga has been found to be one of the most successful factor helping students to excel in their academics. It provides for a healthy life and contributes to a holistic development of the child. With more researches of increased stress among students in the present day due to academics, yoga can be something that refreshes their minds and helps them to bring the best out of all actions and take everything as a new learning. One of the most important takeaway from yoga is that it creates a positive vibe among students.

Effective role play plays a role in learning
Role play is one of the important aspect for children because it helps them to learn and understand the topic very quickly. It helps to build in social skills and  communication skills. This act is so good that it gives students a real life experiences and everyday scenarios what happens around them. Role play act gives them awareness about what is good and what is bad. This research article is quiet fascinating and it also has different ways of integrating role play in learning. It is so fun that children will love doing role plays and learn many things. Role play in education is important.

Locus of Control and Student academic achievement
Locus of control is one of the important aspects of personality. The idea of Locus of control was developed by Julian Rotter in the 1950s. Locus of control refers to the individual’s perception about the underlying main causes of events in his/ her life. Locus of control is very much related to the student achievement. Working Models in Teaching and Learning Mathematics
Model used : GEOBOARD
Chapter - QUADRILATERALS

As a student, Geometry did not motivate me though Math is my favorite subject.. In B.Ed I learnt about use of working models in teaching Mathematics, which made difference in my attitude towards Geometry. In my 2nd Phase Internship, I used Geoboard to teach Quadrilaterals - 16 students of grade 8, I made groups of 4. Each group chose 1 type of quadrilaterals, used the geoboard (hands on experience) and come up with the properties of quadrilaterals. I found the students were interested and motivated.
This fascinated me in teaching something which I found difficult during my school days. I believe in reflecting on the things effected or hampered my learning and as a teacher how and what are the measures I take to make my teaching effective.
Looking forward to teach theorems in the future days.

Topic: How Virtual Learning is transforming k12 Education
Technology has speeded into each and everyone in the society and education being no exception.
Virtual learning is method of using computer software and internet or both to deliver instructions to students. It is more accessible to students in many ways, but it might be challenging for teachers who must adapt to new methods. Some of the examples are - blended learning, use of mobile devices in classroom, social networking for learning electronic and interactive textbooks etc. For educators they can develop new and engaging lessons  in virtual learning and also develop digital assessments.
Virtual learning is alive and well in many of the countries. In U.S.A the Kentucky Department of education policy has given guidelines for digital learning which can make educators adapt to new methods and deliver it to students effectively.
