Ideas for Teachers Set 4

Theory of Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner
Howard Gardner introduced the theory of multiple intelligences in his book Frames of Mind in the year 1983. He developed his theory though his intensive work as neurologist. According to Gardner, intelligence refers to the ability to solve problems and create solutions. He believed that they were eight way of knowing. In 2009, Gardner included existential intelligence as the ninth intelligence. Since individuals learn, apply and represent knowledge in different ways, Gardner opined that a teacher should use different methodologies to teach a subject.

Gamification of education
Gamification of education is a way of using game based elements in classrooms to increase engagement, interest and promote learning. It can be using video games for learning or just aspects of games such as giving rewards, dividing the content into levels, giving students choices in various paths they can take (just like in video games) in terms of choosing type of assignment they want to do, team playing activities in class which will also gain points, etc.
There can also be themes given to your classroom and roles/avatars to each student which creates an alternative reality for students to indulge in- eg. "Pirates exploring the sea of knowledge" or "Harry Potter themed classes with activities related to learning". It is all customisable according to the resources that are available with you.

Mindsets and role of teachers
Mindsets are perceptions about one’s intelligence and when students believe they can mould their intelligence or abilities, they put  more effort which leads to better achievement. As teachers, how we can mould their mindsets, by educating them about the neuroplasticity of the brain is very relevant. As an educator, our mindset also affects the student’s learning and the mindsets we instil in them. Dr.Carol Dweck has done extensive research in this area and the link below throws more light on it.

Building Positive Classrooms and Student Character
Area of Interest: Understanding the influence of CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE on students and their overall learning has always fascinated me. While pursuing a certificate course on Building Positive Classrooms and Character Strengths on “Coursera”, we were asked to take a survey to identify our Character Strength Profile and also rank the character strengths we would wish for our students to have. Having an idea of our character strengths can enable us to be more productive in our work, satisfied in our endeavours and passionate towards our field of interests.

The VIA (Value in Action) Institute on Character has designed a survey questionnaire to identify an individual’s character strength profile. This study on Character Strengths which is conducted by the VIA states that “Every individual has all the 24-character strengths in varied degrees, giving each person a unique character profile. Individual Character strength profiles can be discovered by taking the scientifically tested VIA survey.

The VIA (Value in Action) Institute on Character (based in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a non-profit organization that works towards bringing the science of character strengths to the world. It creates courses, surveys and resources for professionals that helps them build their character strengths. Their mission statement says it all -
“The VIA Institute on Character helps people change their lives by tapping into the power of their own greatest strengths.”

Discovery Learning
The teacher plays roll of facilitator in this method. Discovery Learning makes the students independent learner with the challenge of finding solution to the problem using critical rational skill. I would like to share few method to implement in the classroom and I believe it works if you are interested give a try to carry this activity in your classroom. 1.warm up exercises to create mood of learning in the student. 2. Twenty question is excellent warm up activity - this activity like the riddle game where students figure the answer by asking question to teacher only yes/no question. 3. Public interview to the student with topic in the class. 4. Incomplete sentence provided to complete individuals or group Ex: The one thing that I want accomplish.... 4. Class meeting among teacher and the student. 5. The teacher could call randomly any student to answer then follows chain method to get different answers.

All for sport-sports for all

School a place, a home for development, creativity, knowledge and power. A place where pupils come together to learn, play and live together.
Decathlon a sports brand that manufacturers sports wear, clothes and equipment for the development of sports and sportsmenship in people.
It's main aim is to make sports sustainably available to many.
It's goal by 2030 is to connect, inspire, explore, co-writing, live everyday.
There are a lot of inspirational videos made but this one touched me the most. 'It's about a group of students in Africa, wanting to play football they never could purchase a football. As a part of exploring, decathlon identified the interest of students and have made the products at an affordable price and have encouraged students to play what they love'.
Decathlon has conducts events and progress in schools to encourage and motivate students. Decathlon is a home and it is where it has always wanted to be. Decathlon also looks towards the nature, the environment to make it safe and preserve the world for the coming youth.
Decathlon is a dream come true to make sports for all.

Sustainable School

In today's world the need of the hour is to meet the goals of sustainable development and here is a school called  Green School in Bali modelling to all on how these goals can be achieved. Some of their initiatives are using solar energy and it is the only school in the world to use micro hydro power as their energy sources. They also have implemented a challenging initiative of having dry pit toilets where they compost human waste. The students are exposed to sustainability where the young minds have come up with ideas like seeing their country free from plastic bags and school bus running on bio fuel for transportation. In this way the school and the students together work towards sustainability where the students are given a sense of civic responsibility alongside creating love for nature.

Individualised Education Plan (IEP)
In times where parents expect the best guidance and coaching for their wards from schools, IEPs are a great way to reach out to students with special needs. When we talk about inclusion in a school setting parents and other care givers play equally important roles in designing learning outcomes for students. IEP s are plans that are constructed in collaboration with parents who are very much aware of their child's specific needs and can contribute immensely in the learning process. Like a knowledge base is essential to build on for  complex topics, similarly IEP s also require inputs from parents regarding the existing skills of students and individual outcomes that need to be met after the plan is implemented.
Stages in developing an IEP are:
Gathering and sharing information
Setting direction
Developing and writing the IEP
Implementing and reviewing the IEP

The following link contains an anatomy of an IEP:

Role of School Counsellors
Earlier in my school days, we did not have a counsellor as such. Teachers would solve problems if there were any. But nowadays it has become the need of the hour to have counsellors in schools or any educational institutions. This is because of the various problems and issues that have increased among the students. It could be due to various reasons such as conflicts among friends, relationship problems, conflict with parents and so on. The duties of a counsellor does not limit to just solving problems.  The counsellor  helps the students identify their problems and help them work towards coming out of it. The counsellor also helps in reinforcing the students with a positive outlook and also give them career guidance and help them achieve greater academic excellence. The counsellor along with the teachers and parents help the students to bring out the best and help them utilize their potential and become more systematic in life so as to become well adjusted and productive individuals in the community.

Brain-based learning
Brain-based learning is a new perspective in teaching and learning which is based on the usage of technology and knowledge of the brain and is functions in order to get the maximum outcome from the student in educational institutions. In this theory,it unites knowledge of neuroscience, psychology and education with the objective to optimize the teaching and learning process.

Idea for Teachers Set 3

Teaching history today
Often when I visit a classroom the most common reaction I get from students is : boring/ why to learn something that happened centuries ago.
I realised that my attempt to teach history should be such that this feeling in their mind is washed away and I looked up for many platforms to make it useful in my classroom. I realized to do away with the feeling of "past" students are needed to be provided with "live" experiences. The link attached below just provides only few of many ideas to make a history class fun and educational at the same time.
Apart from the techniques/resources mentioned in the article, a teacher can also take technology assistance in the form of gamification / virtual trips / live class rooms etc.
The attempt should be to provide epic experience to all!

Emotional Intelligence
Since childhood I have come across the word IQ often and always known that people with high IQ have higher chances of academic success. But there is a great change in our thinking which first began from the book of Daniel Goleman's " emotional intelligence" which said that there is something more important than IQ to succeed in career. EQ is one of the most essential skill in education for teachers as well as students to promote the ability to survive and sustain in the workplace of 2050.
Here are some links that can help you to understand why and how EQ can be developed in education and it's stakeholders.

School Discipline's Effect on academic performance of Students
Quality education is the prime goal of any educational institution. This goal can never be achieved without discipline. William Blackstone used a phrase in 1770 " in loco parentis" which gives educators place as of parents. Teachers play an important role in school discipline and it does not mean giving corporal punishment but making an order in learning and life style. Various researches had been done in this and all studies showed the effectiveness of school discipline. Studies showed a disciplined school encourage students' academic performance by controlling students' behaviour.

Environment Education through Eco club Activities

As we are aware of the pollution that happens around the world, schools have come forward to implement certain strategies in schools to be aware and to make aware others about respecting our mother earth. What is interesting is that the schools all over in Delhi implemented this idea as they face more issues with pollution. Environmental awareness is a chain process that begin from the work of a child and continuous. A child gets sensitized about their environment and passes it to the family and it goes from society, city, state and thus becomes the part of a collaborative work of the country. So Eco club education is an important factor which imparts knowledge, makes the children to observe, reasoning out and generate values.

Yoga
Yoga has been found to be one of the most successful factor helping students to excel in their academics. It provides for a healthy life and contributes to a holistic development of the child. With more researches of increased stress among students in the present day due to academics, yoga can be something that refreshes their minds and helps them to bring the best out of all actions and take everything as a new learning. One of the most important takeaway from yoga is that it creates a positive vibe among students.

Effective role play plays a role in learning
Role play is one of the important aspect for children because it helps them to learn and understand the topic very quickly. It helps to build in social skills and  communication skills. This act is so good that it gives students a real life experiences and everyday scenarios what happens around them. Role play act gives them awareness about what is good and what is bad. This research article is quiet fascinating and it also has different ways of integrating role play in learning. It is so fun that children will love doing role plays and learn many things. Role play in education is important.

Locus of Control and Student academic achievement
Locus of control is one of the important aspects of personality. The idea of Locus of control was developed by Julian Rotter in the 1950s. Locus of control refers to the individual’s perception about the underlying main causes of events in his/ her life. Locus of control is very much related to the student achievement. Read more to understand locus of control link below.

Working Models in Teaching and Learning Mathematics
Model used : GEOBOARD
Chapter - QUADRILATERALS

As a student, Geometry did not motivate me though Math is my favorite subject.. In B.Ed I learnt about use of working models in teaching Mathematics, which made difference in my attitude towards Geometry. In my 2nd Phase Internship, I used Geoboard to teach Quadrilaterals - 16 students of grade 8, I made groups of 4. Each group chose 1 type of quadrilaterals, used the geoboard (hands on experience) and come up with the properties of quadrilaterals. I found the students were interested and motivated.
This fascinated me in teaching something which I found difficult during my school days. I believe in reflecting on the things effected or hampered my learning and as a teacher how and what are the measures I take to make my teaching effective.
Looking forward to teach theorems in the future days.

Topic: How Virtual Learning is transforming k12 Education
Technology has speeded into each and everyone in the society and education being no exception.
Virtual learning is method of using computer software and internet or both to deliver instructions to students. It is more accessible to students in many ways, but it might be challenging for teachers who must adapt to new methods. Some of the examples are - blended learning, use of mobile devices in classroom, social networking for learning electronic and interactive textbooks etc. For educators they can develop new and engaging lessons  in virtual learning and also develop digital assessments.
Virtual learning is alive and well in many of the countries. In U.S.A the Kentucky Department of education policy has given guidelines for digital learning which can make educators adapt to new methods and deliver it to students effectively.

Multicultural education in classroom

My topic talks abt how can a teacher act as a mediator in between students who have a cultural clash in class.
How they can solve their clashing problem and also make them to understand about how to respect each other cultures

Ideas for Teachers Set 2

Deltastep : online learning platform
Online learning environment  in the form of enquiry based learning with real life examples. This platform is useful for both students and teachers. If suppose students are unable to understand classroom teaching on specific topic in mathematics, can understand the concept with more examples and simple methods through deltastep. Even teachers can use this app to engage the classroom learning in systematic way specially in science and mathematics. The features of deltastep are interactive lectures, adaptive video delivery, logical solutions, discussion forum and so on.
Teaching Grammar
No child likes to study or learn grammar in today's age. A traditional way of teaching grammar will be not much effective or of interest to children any more. The development of technology has been growing all over the world. Computer, laptop and LCD contribute as teaching and learning media. The children learn in a better way when we use the technology to teach Grammar in a proper way. One of the compulsory subject offered in the curriculum is grammar. It is important when we teach Grammar we need to provide teaching materials from various sources such as text books, workbooks, recordings, CD rooms, videos, newspapers or  any kind of materials which helps to learn the target language. Grammar is very important to be learnt so that the language learners learn properly. .Multimedia helps to learn the language in a more effective manner.

Ikigai
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being."According to ikigai, education is never forced on an individual but it must be spontaneous, willing and give a sense of meaning to life.It helps students to find, explore and engage the fundamental issues and tackle those by developing their potentialities.Once you follow ikigai, you will love what you do and achieve intellectual, mental and spiritual goals in your life.It raises you to attain your dreams by the wings of self realisation and personal maturity.
TEACHING MATHEMATICS THROUGH ACTIVITIES

Mathematics is considered to be a difficult and boring subject by many students. And with this perspective they don't even try to give a try to concept. But, if mathematics is taught using activities, the concept becomes interesting and stays with the students for a longer time.

TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHOD VS MODERN TEACHING METHOD
Teaching styles have changed significantly over the years.  In traditional way of teaching,  students would sit in silence when the teacher is teaching. The technique used here to learn something is through repetition and memorisation. And this means they are not developing the critical thinking,  problem solving  and decision making skills.  Where as in modern way teaching involves interactive methods. The learning here happens completely different by focusing more on the individual needs of the students rather than assuming students are at the same level of understanding. The modern way of teaching techniques includes questioning,  explaining,  demonstration and collaboration. However,  modern and traditional teaching methods are both effective and useful in today's education.
Topic: Blended learning: the new learning and emerging technologies.                                Message: This article mainly talks about several outcomes, implication and future directions for Blended learning in higher education. Also this will give you information regarding how you can blend the topics using ICT in teaching and learning process.                        Link: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://educationaltechnologyjournal.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s41239-017-0087-5&ved=2ahUKEwjQu_Tym6PnAhWhyzgGHXjXAzMQFjABegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw0wkYCEP9oallpJiauJG8B6&cshid=1580109031253
Corporal punishment
Everybody has an opinion about corporal punishment, but don’t you think corporal punishment should end ?
Still wondering what is corporal punishment ?
Anything that brings shame or any physical pain  to a student, as simple as making the child stand up on the bench or asking them to walk out of the class is also corporal punishment. It all still happens in every school and the teachers are still unaware of how the simplest things hurts the child, moreover it’s illegal too .
It’s high time teachers of today become aware of how the simplest of things can impact the development of the child .

Learner-Centered Teaching
Basically “Student-centered” classrooms include students in planning, implementation, and assessments. Involving the learners in these decisions will place more work on them, which can be a good way of learning as well as teaching. Teachers must become comfortable with changing their leadership style from directive to consultative changing from the mind set of "Do as I say" to "Based on your needs, let's co-develop and implement a plan of action.
Louis de Montfort
A man who loved writing and composing hymns found time to write a number of books which went on to become classic Catholic titles and influences several church leaders. He founded three congregation for men and women in France, which teaches about the secret of Mary in the salvation history ot human. He writes about the importance of rosary which helps an individual to reach Jesus.According to him Mary is the surest and shortest way to meet Jesus. He encouraged education through his many writing and teaching of the church in 18th century,he opens school for boys and girls in his time.Today there are numerous school which follows the philosophy of Montfort all over the world. All most all the states in India has Montfort school which helps in education and career for the young people.
Alternative School
A nontraditional school system where the administration follows neither too strict nor too liberal pathway. Schools such as Prakriya Green Wisdom (where teachers are referred to as 'aunty' and not ma'am) or The Valley School are schools following the alternative way. They are placed amidst nature and both the schools allow the usage of technology in a limited way.
Alternative schools specialize in using varied and creative ways to teach the material, and their teaching methods are often much more tailored to each student's learning preferences.
As for the teaching, the schools follow a strict philosophy of teaching the kid only when he or she is ready.
They provide a safer therapeutic environment and more individualized attention than traditional schools to children and adolescents with psychological and behavioral issues.
Each student is paired with an advocate counselor, who provides guidance and support for individual goal setting in the personalized, self-paced environment.

URBAN LIVING LABS

Urban living labs are innovative settings that connect stakeholders from different disciplines and research to develop or create solutions to urban challenges. The main goal of an urban living lab is to create new products which can be an object, a service, a technology, an application or a system as a sustainable solution that can be applied in the society.
The government of Karnataka has collaborated with the Netherlands healthcare unit to improve on healthcare quality and it's affordability through eHealth and medical devices developed in a living lab they set up in May 2018 in Bangalore. This gave an opportunity for many interdisciplinary institutes to come together like, academic institutes, hospitals, IT, med-tech companies, start-ups etc. The Manipal Academy of Higher Education, participated in this unique challenge(s) driven initiative that aimed at bridging existing gaps in the healthcare industry. Academic institutions are one of the integral part of innovation, social development and in turn part of a living lab. It forms a reliable source of knowledge, creative and innovative thoughts, which can be made use of appropriately to bring socially desirable changes that are required in the society. The need of the hour is to apply the knowledge and skill educational institution imparts in each one of us, in the society we live in for sustainable growth and development.

"Challenges in Education"

How familiar it sounds! Isn't it? And what are we actually doing to solve these challenges? Involve every stakeholder and discuss every possible thing on earth except the most important stakeholder - students!
If you are at the very least concerned about the thought process of the students and wants to know better solutions given by them to solve their own problems, then look up the article linked below:)

Time multipliers

The strategy of multiplying time does not magically give you 48 hours a day.  Instead it is a method to free up more time in the future by prioritizing our tasks based on its significance. According to Rory Vaden, time multipliers ask 4 questions about their tasks.
1. Can I eliminate this task?
This question helps to say 'no' to task that we do because we did not want to disappoint others.
2. If I can't eliminate this task, can I automate it?
This question helps identify tasks that can be done for you by others, like buying groceries online or paying bills online.
3. Can it be delegated,  or can I teach others to do it?
Delegation of work to others gives you more time to do other tasks.
4. Should I do this task now,  or can I do it later?
This question focuses on 'procrastination on purpose'. This is a way of deliberately keeping some tasks for later because it is not urgent or significant enough to be done now.

School Climate and Safety

The American institutes of research states that a friendly, helpful school climate contributes to students and teachers social and emotional and cognitive development. An optimistic and positive school climate and conditions for learning contribute to student’s high achievement and improve test scores, student participation, and attendance, promotion of grade and graduations rates.
“Efforts to improve school climate and safety can also reduce violent behavior and mitigate teacher burnout. To achieve these outcomes, however, reliable, accessible data about the quality of learning environments are needed” (American Institutes of Research, School climate and safety)
In the United States and around the globe, there is a developing enthusiasm for school climate change and a thankfulness this is a reasonable, information driven school improvement methodology that advances more secure, increasingly steady, and progressively thoughtful K–12 schools.

EXISTENTIAL INTELLIGENCE:

In his 1983 book Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences psychologist Howard Gardner propounded that there was no singular intelligence based on an IQ test but rather ' multiple intelligences'.
The original 8 intelligence modals he identified were:
·         Visual-Spatial Intelligence
·         Linguistic-Verbal Intelligence
·         Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
·         Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence
·         Musical Intelligence
·         Interpersonal Intelligence
·         Intrapersonal Intelligence
·         Naturalistic Intelligence
In 2009 Gardner suggested the addition of existential intelligence.
Existential intelligence is focused on those who have an affinity for asking the bigger questions in life like:
·         Why am I here? Why are we here?
·         Are there other dimensions and if so what are they like?
·         Can animals understand us, or do animals go to heaven?
·         Are there really ghosts?
·         Where do we go when we die?
·         Why are some people evil?
·         Is there life on other planets?
·         Where is heaven?
·         Where does God live?

Teaching Science through Song

Music has always played an important factor in a child's personal, cognitive and emotional development.Since music is essential , teaching science with music based science videos and science song lyrics can help students to grasp the concept visually as well as relate to it rhythmically. Most research papers on music based science learning prove to show that it is an effective instructional method that caters to all types of learners the classroom and modulates a better teaching and learning experience.

Physical education

I read this article it clearly explains,
Physical education is important part in today’s life. Physical activity also influence individual life style and health. Physical training is related to the physique of human body. It is taken during primary and secondary education which promote health. It provide psychological benefits such as concentration, awareness and positive mood. Physical education develops students confidence and skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking.some teachers began to incorporate stress reduction techniques such as yoga, deep breath, teaching non traditional sports may also provide motivation for students to increase their activity and can help them learn about different cultures. The important trend is the incorporation of health and nutrition into the psychological education curriculum.

Flipped Classroom

Flipped classroom is in which the traditional educational method or practice is reversed. This approach is widely practiced in China and the US where technology is highly integrated into education. Flipped classroom in which the students gain first exposure to materials such as viewing materials online prior to class and learn in their own pace. So during class they highly participate in discussion and active learning . The main pillars that the teacher much keep in mind while implementing flipped classroom is, Flexible environment, learning culture, intentional content and professional educators. One main advantage of this approach is it helps teachers in effective time management. This helps teachers to create opportunities for students to apply the knowledge they acquired by watching the video and practice higer order thinking. As each learner have their own strengths and weaknesses in studies, flipped classroom accommodates differentiated instruction.

Can learning through puppets help children to express themselves ?

We have all seen puppet shows but do we know how this can be used as a teaching aid especially for those who are less expressive ?
Me being an introvert, I first experienced the feeling of coming out of my comfort zone without any fear to express myself when I witnessed a puppet play in which I was a part. This was when I realized how effective can puppet plays be for an introvert student.
I kept this as one of my teaching aid during the internship. Surprisingly it worked the same way for one of my student who was a silent boy.   The puppet class was the only class in which he initiated the talk with me.
At this point of time I was convinced that learning through puppets do make a difference in students growth especially who are introverts.
Puppets are also used as a play therapy by counsellors to help children who feel too uncomfortable (too afraid /too angry / too distrusting ) to express themselves.

Code of Ethics
It's important to understand that when we get a teaching position we are agreeing to follow the code of ethics like doctors, social workers or any other profession. We can not push our personal beliefs  on students because they are audience.

Alexa, I Love You

an essay on Artificial Intelligence

By Jibrael Jos,
Associate Professor
Ph.D. Scholar at Christ University

The line between what is real and what is artificial is sometimes very difficult to define. Intelligence in any form is very hard to find. When we look at the decisions we have made in the past, we have got most of them wrong. Some of our greatest decisions were logically flawed but in time they turned out to be just fine. The course we chose to follow, the dreams we aspire towards were driven not by intelligence, but by our sub-conscious. We are not even aware of the number of variables that are in play inside our sub-conscious. Some mornings I go to the counter to order tea, but by the time my turn comes I say “May I have a coffee please?” What changed? Was it the aroma of the coffee? Was it that I saw somebody else order coffee? Was it my gut making a gastronomical choice? Was it my sleepiness crying for help?
Let us take another human trait- ‘learning’. How did we learn bowling, how did we learn to spin and knock out the nine pins. Are we even aware of the math involved? We gave it a semblance of sense by call it our learning curve. Little do we realise that randomness and chaos run in our nerves.
I used to think that my intelligence was above average. I won a few more chess games more and just when I was feeling great about it, I realised that the computer at home could beat me effortlessly; in fact, so can my mobile today. What is even more shocking, is that my computer could see patterns which I couldn’t even fathom or decipher. My research requires me to process images and look for patterns in it. In 1986 when I started coding, I used to tell the computer what algorithm it needs to run. I used to think and implement. But nowadays, I run my neural net code on Matlab for a few hours and the computer finds my answers. Otherwise, I might have had to sift through data for months before I would have detected the same. Computer is faster and smarter, and now it is learning. We use AI to find the best route on maps, translate different languages, and even assess compatibility in a matrimonial site. Shopping suggestions are jumping at us when we read news, browse our email, or watch a movie. The comfy, brown recliner, priced at Rs 45,000 and 23% discount is following me everywhere.
Supervised learning is when we train the data with say 500 samples. When I look closely at the results, I realise that the computer has found errors in my supervised classification itself. The black shade which my naked eye had detected on a mango leaf was a dark shade of green and in fact that leaf was actually not infested with a disease as I had wrongly assumed.
Alexa (Amazon’s AI Device) at home predicted that I may like songs of Rishi Kapoor. I have asked Alexa to sing songs of Kishore Da, Lata Di, Elvis Presley but never Rishi Kapoor (after all he is an actor). So how did she deduce that? Alexa is constantly learning with every song I select and she saw a pattern. Due to my very act of not changing the song she chose for me, she has learnt one more thing about me. Sometimes she creeps me by saying “I am sorry, I am still learning” but most of the time I am happy to have her around.
Mr. Google knows us inside out, our background, friends, interests, eating habits, and our shopping preferences. Santa Clause is real, very-very real-
He sees you when you're sleepin'
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake
Oh! You better watch out!
I have been doing research in AI for the last six years and it has been a fascinating journey. I love teaching AI and I have taught it to computer science graduates, management, and even psychology students. My MPhil work revolved around Genetic Algorithm and my Ph.D. work around Pattern Detection and Classification using Neural Network. While teaching Neural Network the math involved in the derivation and proofs were so cumbersome that I spent 60 hours learning, to teach a 45 hour paper.
A linear classifier is easy to understand- a line which splits points in a graph into two classes but as soon as we increase the number of dimensions it becomes very difficult to visualise. My current classifier has more than 50 dimensions, so the way backpropagation algorithm set the weights in my multi-layer feedforward neural network is amazing once we get our minds around it.
To cut a long story short, I am slightly biased towards AI
·         I would prefer computer to manage traffic; not a human
·         I would prefer to buy tickets online than over the counter
·         Algorithms keep us safe, whether in flights or disaster warning systems
·         Computers don’t scare me, human beings do
·         Intelligence does not bother me, stupidity does

With whom do I have meaningful conversations with; who reads all my social media posts? Facebook has not started talking yet, but how far can it be; Alexa is getting there. There is a bot which can help in therapy. I think the day is already here where we trust Artificial Intelligence more and a day will come when humans will fall in love with someone virtual.
